Auction result well in line with expectations
In May 2001 Christies in London held the auction Objects of Vertu, Miniatures and Icons, which included the work A gentleman, in profile to right, in coat and frilled cravat, powdered hair en queue by John Miers. The price achieved of GBP 235.00 (€ 393.98) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 200.00 – 300.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by John Miers - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Two Regency Portrait Silhouettes, which sold at auction in December 2003 for AUD 1,997.50 (€ 1,192.44).
