In May 2004 Christies in London held the auction AT HOME - PORTRAIT MINIATURES, OBJECTS OF VERTU, ICONS, RUSS, which included the work A gentleman and a lady, in profile left and right respectively: he, in a coat and frilled cravat; she, wearing a dress with frill at the back, her curling hair upswept by John Miers. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 478.00 (€ 717.18), 20% above the upper estimate. Other works by John Miers have achieved even higher prices, we observed the highest auction result so far of AUD 1,997.50 (€ 1,192.44) in December 2003 for the work Two Regency Portrait Silhouettes.
