Auction result well in line with expectations
The work William Woodville (1733-1815) of Edge Hill, Co. Lancaster, in umber brown jacket, light green waistcoat, white frilled-linen shirt and cravat, powdered wig en queue by Jeremiah Meyer was sold in the Centuries of Style: Silver, European Ceramics, Portrait Miniatures and Gold Boxes auction at Christies in London in June 2009. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 2,000.00 – 3,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 2,250.00 (€ 2,640.30) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Admittedly, works by Jeremiah Meyer have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Portrait Of A Student In The Robes Of A Westminster Scholar in April 2008 with an auction result of GBP 16,100.00 (€ 20,525.22).
