Auction result misses estimated price range
In February 2018 a collector was able to acquire the work "Viosseu" Or Chinese Musician; Chinese Woman Of Kouei Tchéou: A Pair Of Paintings by Jean-Antoine Watteau for USD 399,000.00 (€ 326,754.57). This price was achieved in the auction Master Paintings Evening Sale at Sothebys in New York and was even below the estimate range of USD 400,000.00 – 600,000.00 set by the auction house. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Jean-Antoine Watteau achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work La Surprise: A couple embracing while a figure dressed as Mezzetin tunes a guitar in July 2008 with an auction result of GBP 12,361,250.00 (€ 15,705,107.29).

Dieser Preis wurde in der Auktion Master Paintings Evening Sale bei Sothebys in New York erzielt und lag noch unterhalb der von dem Auktionshaus angesetzten Schätzpreisspanne von USD 400.000,00 – 600.000,00. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Jean-Antoine Watteau erzielen.
