Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Recto: Sheet Of Studies: Head Of A Young Man In Profile, Facing Right, A Man Kneeling, Seen From Behind And A Young Man, In Profile, Facing Left Verso: Study Of Trees by Jean-Antoine Watteau was auctioned at Sothebys in London in July 2019. The price achieved of GBP 375,000.00 (€ 411,725.07) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 300,000.00 – 500,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Jean-Antoine Watteau achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work La Surprise: A couple embracing while a figure dressed as Mezzetin tunes a guitar in July 2008 with an auction result of GBP 12,361,250.00 (€ 15,705,107.29).

Der dabei erzielte Preis von GBP 375.000,00 (€ 411.725,07) lag im Rahmen der Erwartungen – die Schätzpreisspanne war von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit GBP 300.000,00 – 500.000,00 angegeben worden. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Jean-Antoine Watteau erzielen.
