Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Study Of The Head Of A Young Man by Jean-Antoine Watteau was sold in the Old Master & British Works on Paper auction at Sothebys in London in July 2019. The price achieved of GBP 40,000.00 (€ 43,917.34) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 35,000.00 – 45,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Jean-Antoine Watteau achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work La Surprise: A couple embracing while a figure dressed as Mezzetin tunes a guitar in July 2008 with an auction result of GBP 12,361,250.00 (€ 15,705,107.29).
