Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Two Studies Of Elegant Men, One Standing, The Other Kneeling by Jean-Antoine Watteau was auctioned at Sothebys in New York in October 2020. The price achieved of USD 226,800.00 (€ 194,728.26) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as USD 200,000.00 – 300,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Jean-Antoine Watteau achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work La Surprise: A couple embracing while a figure dressed as Mezzetin tunes a guitar in July 2008 with an auction result of GBP 12,361,250.00 (€ 15,705,107.29).

Der dabei erzielte Preis von USD 226.800,00 (€ 194.728,26) lag im Rahmen der Erwartungen – die Schätzpreisspanne war von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit USD 200.000,00 – 300.000,00 angegeben worden. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Jean-Antoine Watteau erzielen.
