Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Head Of A Young Woman by Jean-Antoine Watteau was sold in the Old Master & British Works on Paper auction at Sothebys in London in July 2019. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 25,000.00 – 35,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 27,500.00 (€ 30,193.17) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Jean-Antoine Watteau achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work La Surprise: A couple embracing while a figure dressed as Mezzetin tunes a guitar in July 2008 with an auction result of GBP 12,361,250.00 (€ 15,705,107.29).
