The work La Lorgneuse by Jean-Antoine Watteau was sold in the Old Master & British Paintings Evening Sale auction at Christies in London in July 2015. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 782,500.00 (€ 1,109,322.18), 57% above the upper estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Jean-Antoine Watteau achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work La Surprise: A couple embracing while a figure dressed as Mezzetin tunes a guitar in July 2008 with an auction result of GBP 12,361,250.00 (€ 15,705,107.29).
Oberer Schätzpreis um 57 % übertroffen
Die Arbeit La Lorgneuse von Jean-Antoine Watteau wurde im Juli 2015 in der Auktion Old Master & British Paintings Evening Sale bei Christies in London versteigert. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von GBP 782.500,00 (€ 1.109.322,18) und damit 57% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Jean-Antoine Watteau erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit La Surprise: A couple embracing while a figure dressed as Mezzetin tunes a guitar im Juli 2008 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 12.361.250,00 (€ 15.705.107,29).
