Auction result misses estimated price range
This work of art by Jean-Antoine Watteau could be acquired at Sothebys in London in July 2016 for an unexpectedly low price. In the Old Master and British Works on Paper Including drawings from the Oppé Collection auction, the work Fête Champêtre changed hands for GBP 37,500.00 (€ 44,558.11) - missing the lower end of the estimate range of GBP 40,000.00 – 60,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Jean-Antoine Watteau achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work La Surprise: A couple embracing while a figure dressed as Mezzetin tunes a guitar in July 2008 with an auction result of GBP 12,361,250.00 (€ 15,705,107.29).
