In July 2017 Christies in London held the auction Old Master & British Drawings & Watercolours, which included the work A seated woman holding a fan by Jean-Antoine Watteau. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 18,750.00 (€ 20,922.12), 56% above the upper estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Jean-Antoine Watteau achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work La Surprise: A couple embracing while a figure dressed as Mezzetin tunes a guitar in July 2008 with an auction result of GBP 12,361,250.00 (€ 15,705,107.29).
Oberer Schätzpreis um 56 % übertroffen
Im Juli 2017 führte Christies in London die Auktion Old Master & British Drawings & Watercolours durch, in der auch die Arbeit A seated woman holding a fan von Jean-Antoine Watteau zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von GBP 18.750,00 (€ 20.922,12) und damit 56% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Jean-Antoine Watteau erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit La Surprise: A couple embracing while a figure dressed as Mezzetin tunes a guitar im Juli 2008 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 12.361.250,00 (€ 15.705.107,29).
