This artwork by Jean-Antoine Watteau achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in New York in January 2016. In the Old Master and British Drawings auction, the work A Portrait Of Nicolas Vleughels, Seated And Looking Down To The Left, Tuning His Violin sold for USD 317,000.00 (€ 292,651.40) - well above the upper estimate of USD 180,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Jean-Antoine Watteau achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work La Surprise: A couple embracing while a figure dressed as Mezzetin tunes a guitar in July 2008 with an auction result of GBP 12,361,250.00 (€ 15,705,107.29).
In der Auktion Old Master and British Drawings wurde die Arbeit A Portrait Of Nicolas Vleughels, Seated And Looking Down To The Left, Tuning His Violin für USD 317.000,00 (€ 292.651,40) versteigert – und damit weit über dem oberen Schätzpreis von USD 180.000,00.
