Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work New York by Jan Matulka was auctioned at Sothebys in New York in July 2021, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 6,000.00 – 8,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 3,780.00 (€ 3,186.11). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Jan Matulka achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work New York Harbor & Paris: A Double Sided Work in December 2020 with an auction result of USD 201,600.00 (€ 164,840.56).
