This artwork by James Seymour achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in December 2019. In the IN THE FIELD - An Important Private Collection of Sporting Art auction, the work Traditionally identified as Mr Martindale's chestnut colt 'Sedbury', led by a groom sold for GBP 150,000.00 (€ 177,282.44) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 80,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by James Seymour; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Lord Portmore's 'Snap', a saddled chestnut hunter held by a groom, with a setter in a landscape sold at auction in July 2021 with the realized price of GBP 275,000.00 (€ 322,494.52).
