Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Thomas Panton's 'Conqueror', ridden by a groom in the Panton livery, with Looby being led in exercise beyond, on Newmarket Heath by James Seymour was sold in the Old Masters Part II auction at Christies in July this year. The price achieved of GBP 126,000.00 (€ 147,003.81) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 100,000.00 – 150,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by James Seymour - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Lord Portmore's 'Snap', a saddled chestnut hunter held by a groom, with a setter in a landscape, which sold at auction in July 2021 for GBP 275,000.00 (€ 322,494.52).
