HOWARD COOK (1901-1980) Manhattan Bridge woodcut, on wove paper, 1930, signed and dated in pencil, numbered 17/50 (Duffy notes that 40 were printed from the intended edition of 50), with margins, framed Image: 17 5 ⁄ 8 x 8 5 ⁄ 8 in. (448 x 220 mm.) Sheet: 20 7 ⁄ 8 x 10 7 ⁄ 8 in. (530 x 276 mm.)

This artwork by Howard Cook achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in Sydney in August this year. In the Tales of the City: New York Prints and Photographs of the Early 20th Century auction, the work Manhattan Bridge sold for USD 2,772.00 (€ 2,557.43) - well above the upper estimate of USD 1,500.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Howard Cook achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Fog Patterns #2 in March 2019 with an auction result of USD 47,500.00 (€ 42,304.95).

Dieses Kunstwerk von Howard Cook erzielte im August diesen Jahres bei Christies in Sydney einen unerwartet hohen Preis. In der Auktion Tales of the City: New York Prints and Photographs of the Early 20th Century wurde die Arbeit Manhattan Bridge für USD 2.772,00 (€ 2.557,43) versteigert – und damit weit über dem oberen Schätzpreis von USD 1.500,00. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Howard Cook erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Fog Patterns #2 im März 2019 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 47.500,00 (€ 42.304,95).
