This artwork by Gillian Wearing achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in October 2016. In the Post-War & Contemporary Art Day Auction auction, the work Self Portrait sold for GBP 35,000.00 (€ 38,991.06) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 20,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Gillian Wearing; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Self-Portrait at 17 Years Old (from Album) sold at auction in May last year with the realized price of USD 63,000.00 (€ 58,708.41).
