GEORGE WESLEY BELLOWS (1882-1925) Old Billiard Player lithograph, on Japon paper, 1921, signed in pencil, also signed and inscribed by the printer ' Bolton Brown-imp. ' in pencil , from the edition of 43, with margins, in good condition, framed Image: 9 x 7 1 ⁄ 2 in. (229 x 189 mm.) Sheet: 10 1 ⁄ 4 x 8 3 ⁄ 4 in. (260 x 222 mm.)
Auction result well in line with expectations
In August this year Christies in Sydney held the auction Tales of the City: New York Prints and Photographs of the Early 20th Century, which included the work Old Billiard Player by George Wesley Bellows. It changed hands for a price of USD 2,772.00 (€ 2,557.43) achieving a result in the upper range of the estimate price range of USD 2,000.00 – 3,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by George Wesley Bellows achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Evening Swell in December 2013 with an auction result of USD 7,893,000.00 (€ 5,728,282.17).
Auktionsergebnis im Rahmen der Erwartungen
Im August diesen Jahres führte Christies in Sydney die Auktion Tales of the City: New York Prints and Photographs of the Early 20th Century durch, in der auch die Arbeit Old Billiard Player von George Wesley Bellows zur Versteigerung kam. Dabei wechselte sie für einen Preis von USD 2.772,00 (€ 2.557,43) den Besitzer und erzielte damit ein Ergebnis im oberen Bereich der Schätzpreisspanne von USD 2.000,00 – 3.000,00. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von George Wesley Bellows erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Evening Swell im Dezember 2013 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 7.893.000,00 (€ 5.728.282,17).
