Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Royal Naval frigates and an armed cutter off a West Indian island, believed to be Martinique, with a native raft offshore by George Webster was auctioned at Christies in London in October 2007. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 7,000.00 – 9,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 7,500.00 (€ 10,770.49) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by George Webster - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work A thirty gun frigate of the blue squadron off Dover castle in choppy seas, which sold at auction in July 2006 for USD 45,600.00 (€ 35,725.48).
