The »bidding war« ended at GBP 8,400.00 (€ 12,361.17), 68% above the upper estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by George Webster - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work A thirty gun frigate of the blue squadron off Dover castle in choppy seas, which sold at auction in July 2006 for USD 45,600.00 (€ 35,725.48).
