This price was achieved in the auction Old Master and British Pictures at Christies in London and exceeded the previously set upper estimate of GBP 3,000.00 many times over. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by George Smith of Chichester; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot A winter landscape with a haystack, cottages and figures, a river beyond; and A winter landscape with two figures crossing a wooden bridge, a village and a church beyond sold at auction in December 2011 with the realized price of GBP 25,000.00 (€ 29,941.03).
