In October 2021 Bonhams held the auction Old Master Paintings, which included the work A loaf of bread with cheese, wine, butter and knife on a draped table by George Smith of Chichester. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 6,375.00 (€ 7,552.65), 28% above the upper estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by George Smith of Chichester - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work A winter landscape with a haystack, cottages and figures, a river beyond; and A winter landscape with two figures crossing a wooden bridge, a village and a church beyond, which sold at auction in December 2011 for GBP 25,000.00 (€ 29,941.03).
