Auction result well in line with expectations
The work A Joint Of Meat With Bread On A Draped Table; And Bread, Cheese, Wine And A Dish Of Butter On A Draped Table (2) by George Smith of Chichester was sold in the Old Master Paintings auction at Bonhams in October 2021. The price achieved of GBP 8,287.50 (€ 9,818.45) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 7,000.00 – 10,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by George Smith of Chichester - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work A winter landscape with a haystack, cottages and figures, a river beyond; and A winter landscape with two figures crossing a wooden bridge, a village and a church beyond, which sold at auction in December 2011 for GBP 25,000.00 (€ 29,941.03).
