Auction result well in line with expectations
In October 2021 Bonhams held the auction Old Master Paintings, which included the work An Italianate River Landscape With A Figure Fishing by George Smith of Chichester. The price achieved of GBP 3,570.00 (€ 4,229.49) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 3,000.00 – 5,000.00. Admittedly, works by George Smith of Chichester have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work A winter landscape with a haystack, cottages and figures, a river beyond; and A winter landscape with two figures crossing a wooden bridge, a village and a church beyond in December 2011 with an auction result of GBP 25,000.00 (€ 29,941.03).
