This artwork by George Knapton achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in London in May 2020. In the Old Masters including Portrait Miniatures from the Pohl-Ströher Collection auction, the work Portrait Of Walter Smythe, Three-Quarter-Length, Wearing Uniform With A Fur-Lined Green Cloak sold for GBP 20,000.00 (€ 22,202.20) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 10,000.00. Admittedly, works by George Knapton have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Portrait Of Lady Elizabeth Howard (1701-1739), Eldest Daughter Of Charles Howard, 3Rd Earl Of Carlisle, In Turkish Costume in July 2012 with an auction result of GBP 109,250.00 (€ 139,155.14).
