The »bidding war« ended at GBP 15,120.00 (€ 17,731.34), 26% above the upper estimate. Admittedly, works by George Knapton have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Portrait Of Lady Elizabeth Howard (1701-1739), Eldest Daughter Of Charles Howard, 3Rd Earl Of Carlisle, In Turkish Costume in July 2012 with an auction result of GBP 109,250.00 (€ 139,155.14).

Die Arbeit Portrait of Admiral of the Fleet Edward Hawke, 1st Baron Hawke (1705-1781), half-length, wearing the ribbon of the Order of Bath von George Knapton wurde im Juli 2021 in der Auktion Old Masters Day Sale bei Sothebys in London versteigert. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von GBP 15.120,00 (€ 17.731,34) und damit 26% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von George Knapton auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Portrait Of Lady Elizabeth Howard (1701-1739), Eldest Daughter Of Charles Howard, 3Rd Earl Of Carlisle, In Turkish Costume im Juli 2012 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 109.250,00 (€ 139.155,14).
