Auction result well in line with expectations
In January 2020 Sothebys in New York held the auction Master Paintings & Sculpture Day Sale, which included the work Portrait Of George Pigot, 1St Baron Pigot (1719 - 1777), Governor Of Madras by George Knapton. The price achieved of USD 56,250.00 (€ 50,707.65) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as USD 50,000.00 – 70,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by George Knapton - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Portrait Of Lady Elizabeth Howard (1701-1739), Eldest Daughter Of Charles Howard, 3Rd Earl Of Carlisle, In Turkish Costume, which sold at auction in July 2012 for GBP 109,250.00 (€ 139,155.14).
