Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Group Portrait Of Three Children, Three-Quarter-Length, In A Wooded Landscape, The Eldest Holding A Peach by George Knapton was auctioned at Christies in London in June 2002, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 25,000.00 – 35,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 21,510.00 (€ 33,271.10). Admittedly, works by George Knapton have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Portrait Of Lady Elizabeth Howard (1701-1739), Eldest Daughter Of Charles Howard, 3Rd Earl Of Carlisle, In Turkish Costume in July 2012 with an auction result of GBP 109,250.00 (€ 139,155.14).
