Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work The murder of the loyal little drummer boy (recto); and The Irish Rebellion (verso) by George Cruikshank was auctioned at Christies in London in December 2001, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 250.00 – 350.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 176.25 (€ 287.97). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by George Cruikshank achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Study for 'The Highland Whisky-Still' in February 2003 with an auction result of GBP 7,409.00 (€ 10,816.91).
