This artwork by George Cruikshank achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in October 2012. In the Travel, Science and Natural History auction, the work Landing The Treasures, Or Results of The Polar Expedition!!! sold for GBP 4,375.00 (€ 5,439.55) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 2,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by George Cruikshank; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Study for 'The Highland Whisky-Still' sold at auction in February 2003 with the realized price of GBP 7,409.00 (€ 10,816.91).
