The »bidding war« ended at GBP 3,375.00 (€ 3,842.62), 69% above the upper estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by George Cruikshank - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Study for 'The Highland Whisky-Still', which sold at auction in February 2003 for GBP 7,409.00 (€ 10,816.91).
