Upper estimated price slightly exceeded
The work Purple Hills by George Benjamin Luks was sold in the American Paintings, Drawings and Sculpture auction at Sothebys in New York in April 2012. The »bidding war« ended at USD 17,500.00 (€ 13,228.51), 17% above the upper estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by George Benjamin Luks achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Lily Williams in May 2010 with an auction result of USD 1,874,500.00 (€ 1,515,482.25).
