This artwork by Frederic Church achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in New York in November 2011. In the Important American Paintings, Drawings and Sculpture auction, the work Twilight sold for USD 3,218,500.00 (€ 2,392,403.18) - well above the upper estimate of USD 1,500,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Frederic Church; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Valley Of Santa Isabel, New Granada sold at auction in May 2018 with the realized price of USD 5,026,250.00 (€ 4,306,983.72).
