Auction result well in line with expectations
The work East Indiamen, including the Triton and the Egmont , and their escorts forming up into a convoy in the Channel and making ready for their journey eastwards to India and China by Francis Holman was auctioned at Christies in London in December 2016. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 5,000.00 – 8,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 5,250.00 (€ 6,138.10) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Francis Holman achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work A view of Blackwell Yard from the Thames in December 2018 with an auction result of GBP 137,500.00 (€ 153,187.19).
