Auction result misses estimated price range
In January 2008 a collector was able to acquire the work Study Of The Head Of A Young Woman Looking Down To The Right by Federico Barocci for USD 193,000.00 (€ 130,045.15). This price was achieved in the auction The Jeffrey E. Horvitz Collection of Italian Drawings at Sothebys in New York and was even below the estimate range of USD 200,000.00 – 300,000.00 set by the auction house. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Federico Barocci achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Head of Saint John the Evangelist, an oil study for The Entombment of Christ in the church of Santa Croce, Senigallia in January 2009 with an auction result of USD 1,762,500.00 (€ 1,376,522.96).
