Artwork auctioned at three times the upper estimate price

The upper estimate was set at a - in retrospect quite modest - USD 70,000.00 but the actual price achieved was more than three times as high at USD 221,000.00 (€ 195,748.45). Admittedly, works by Federico Barocci have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Head of Saint John the Evangelist, an oil study for The Entombment of Christ in the church of Santa Croce, Senigallia in January 2009 with an auction result of USD 1,762,500.00 (€ 1,376,522.96).

Der obere Schätzpreis war mit – rückwirkend betrachtet recht bescheidenen – USD 70.000,00 angesetzt, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis hingegen war mit USD 221.000,00 (€ 195.748,45) mehr als dreimal so hoch.
