Auction result well in line with expectations
In January 2021 Sothebys in New York held the auction The Collection of Hester Diamond Part I, which included the work Saint Joseph, a head study for the Visitation Altarpiece by Federico Barocci. The price achieved of USD 746,000.00 (€ 614,750.72) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as USD 600,000.00 – 800,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Federico Barocci - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Head of Saint John the Evangelist, an oil study for The Entombment of Christ in the church of Santa Croce, Senigallia, which sold at auction in January 2009 for USD 1,762,500.00 (€ 1,376,522.96).
