Auction result well in line with expectations
The work "'Handsome Bell-Rope, Isn'T It?' Said Owl" by Ernest Shepard was sold in the The Art of Illustration - From the Collection of Michael Winner auction at Sothebys in London in December 2012. The price achieved of GBP 63,650.00 (€ 78,498.13) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 50,000.00 – 70,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Ernest Shepard - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work "Here Is Edward Bear, Coming Downstairs Now, Bump, Bump, Bump, On The Back Of His Head, Behind Christopher Robin.", which sold at auction in December 2012 for GBP 139,250.00 (€ 171,733.92).
