Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work new opposition II by Doug Aitken was auctioned at Christies in New York in March this year, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 5,000.00 – 7,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 4,032.00 (€ 4,587.18). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Doug Aitken achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work West in November 2010 with an auction result of USD 326,500.00 (€ 250,460.26).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Als die Arbeit new opposition II von Doug Aitken im März diesen Jahres bei Christies in New York versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von GBP 5.000,00 – 7.000,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für GBP 4.032,00 (€ 4.587,18) den Besitzer. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Doug Aitken erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit West im November 2010 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 326.500,00 (€ 250.460,26).
