In August 2003 Christies in Sydney held the auction AUSTRALIAN, INTERNATIONAL & CONTEMPORARY PAINTINGS, which included the work Lilydale Quarry No. 1 by David Michael Shannon. The »bidding war« ended at AUD 10,575.00 (€ 6,247.20), 18% above the upper estimate. Other works by David Michael Shannon have achieved even higher prices, we observed the highest auction result so far of AUD 15,275.00 (€ 9,023.73) in August 2003 for the work Untitled (City).
