In March 2009 Christies in London held the auction The Country House Sale - Property of the 14th Earl of Kintore & The Collection of the Late Bernard Lyons, C.B.E., which included the work Portrait of John Hume of Ninewells (1709-1786), half-length, in a brown waistcoat and coat by David Martin. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 3,875.00 (€ 4,178.61), 29% above the upper estimate. Admittedly, works by David Martin have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Portrait of James, 3rd Earl of Hopetoun (1741-1817), three-quarter-length, in a cream suit, seated at a desk reading; and Portrait of his wife, Lady Elizabeth Carnegie, Countess of Hopetoun (d. 1793), three-quarter-length, in a blue dress, seated wit in October 2001 with an auction result of USD 23,500.00 (€ 26,131.44

Im März 2009 führte Christies in London die Auktion The Country House Sale - Property of the 14th Earl of Kintore & The Collection of the Late Bernard Lyons, C.B.E. durch, in der auch die Arbeit Portrait of John Hume of Ninewells (1709-1786), half-length, in a brown waistcoat and coat von David Martin zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von GBP 3.875,00 (€ 4.178,61) und damit 29% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von David Martin auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Portrait of James, 3rd Earl of Hopetoun (1741-1817), three-quarter-length, in a cream suit, seated at a desk reading; and Portrait of his wife, Lady Elizabeth Carnegie, Countess of Hopetoun (d. 1793), three-quarter-length, in a blue dress, seated wit im Oktober 2001 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 23.500,00 (€ 26.131,44).
