In July 2016 Sothebys in London held the auction Old Master and British Works on Paper Including drawings from the Oppé Collection, which included the work Portrait Of Caroline Rumbold, Later Mrs Adolphe-Lazare De St Clair (1786-1848) by Daniel Gardner. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 10,625.00 (€ 12,624.80), 52% above the upper estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Daniel Gardner achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Portrait Of Mary Whitbread, Later Lady Grey (1770-1858) in July 2015 with an auction result of GBP 233,000.00 (€ 330,315.74).
