Auction result misses estimated price range
This work of art by Cornelis van Noorde could be acquired at Christies in Amsterdam in September 2002 for an unexpectedly low price. In the Pictures, Watercolours and Drawings auction, the work Peasants with cattle among ruins, a road to the right changed hands for EUR 956.00 - missing the lower end of the estimate range of EUR 1,000.00 – 1,500.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Cornelis van Noorde - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work The dunes of Zandvoort, overlooking the beach with stranded fishing-boats, which sold at auction in November 2000 for NLG 5,616.96 (€ 2,631.46).
