In October 2017 Sothebys in Hong Kong held the auction Modern and Contemporary Southeast Asian Art – Day Sale, which included the work Bicycles By The Shophouse by Chua Ek Kay. The »bidding war« ended at HKD 137,500.00 (€ 15,133.50), 53% above the upper estimate. Admittedly, works by Chua Ek Kay have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Archipelago 1, 2, & 3 in November 2015 with an auction result of HKD 875,000.00 (€ 106,868.96).
Oberer Schätzpreis um 53 % übertroffen
Im Oktober 2017 führte Sothebys in Hong Kong die Auktion Modern and Contemporary Southeast Asian Art – Day Sale durch, in der auch die Arbeit Bicycles By The Shophouse von Chua Ek Kay zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von HKD 137.500,00 (€ 15.133,50) und damit 53% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Chua Ek Kay auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Archipelago 1, 2, & 3 im November 2015 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von HKD 875.000,00 (€ 106.868,96).
