This artwork by Cheng Zhengkui achieved an unexpectedly high price at POLY in Hong Kong in October 2014. In the Classical Chinese Paintings and Calligraphy auction, the work Calligraphy In Running Script sold for HKD 1,180,000.00 (€ 121,484.44) - well above the upper estimate of HKD 600,000.00. This high result makes Calligraphy In Running Script the most expensive artwork by Cheng Zhengkui that we have observed at auctions so far.
