Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Iris by Carl Paul Jennewein was auctioned at Phillips in New York in December 2020, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 40,000.00 – 60,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 37,800.00 (€ 30,907.60). Other works by Carl Paul Jennewein have also sold for higher prices; the highest price we have seen at auction so far was achieved in November 2007 by the work 'Cupid and Crane' at USD 79,000.00 (€ 53,785.40).
