Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Two studies for 'The Death of Nelson' by Benjamin West was auctioned at Christies in London in December 2016. It changed hands for a price of GBP 1,375.00 (€ 1,607.60) achieving a result in the upper range of the estimate price range of GBP 1,000.00 – 1,500.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Benjamin West achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Portrait Of Prince William (1776-1834), Later 2Nd Duke Of Gloucester And Edinburgh, And His Elder Sister, Princess Sophia (1773-1844) Of Gloucester in July 2013 with an auction result of GBP 578,500.00 (€ 661,037.08).
