Upper estimated price slightly exceeded
In October 2019 Christies in New York held the auction Old Master Paintings and Sculpture, which included the work Portrait of Mrs. William Abercromby (b. 1743), half-length by Benjamin West. Here, the upper estimate of USD 80,000.00 was slightly exceeded - the artwork found a new owner for USD 81,250.00 (€ 72,837.29). Admittedly, works by Benjamin West have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Portrait Of Prince William (1776-1834), Later 2Nd Duke Of Gloucester And Edinburgh, And His Elder Sister, Princess Sophia (1773-1844) Of Gloucester in July 2013 with an auction result of GBP 578,500.00 (€ 661,037.08).
