Auction result well in line with expectations
The work The Wise Men'S Offering by Benjamin West was auctioned at Sothebys in New York in January 2017. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of USD 12,000.00 – 16,000.00, the actual price achieved of USD 12,500.00 (€ 11,580.51) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Benjamin West achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Portrait Of Prince William (1776-1834), Later 2Nd Duke Of Gloucester And Edinburgh, And His Elder Sister, Princess Sophia (1773-1844) Of Gloucester in July 2013 with an auction result of GBP 578,500.00 (€ 661,037.08).
