Upper estimate price exceeded by more than 100%
This artwork by Benjamin West achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in December 2016. In the Old Master Drawings and British Drawings and Watercolours auction, the work Study of the artist's children in an oval, playing with a dog (recto ), subsidiary sketches and signatures ( verso ) sold for GBP 2,750.00 (€ 3,215.20) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 1,200.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Benjamin West achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Portrait Of Prince William (1776-1834), Later 2Nd Duke Of Gloucester And Edinburgh, And His Elder Sister, Princess Sophia (1773-1844) Of Gloucester in July 2013 with an auction result of GBP 578,500.00 (€ 661,037.08).
In der Auktion Old Master Drawings and British Drawings and Watercolours wurde die Arbeit Study of the artist's children in an oval, playing with a dog (recto ), subsidiary sketches and signatures ( verso ) für GBP 2.750,00 (€ 3.215,20) versteigert – und damit weit über dem oberen Schätzpreis von GBP 1.200,00.
